Device Data Quality

Purpose

Device Data Quality is a Clarity Transform dashboard that scores every device in the CMDB against the Mandatory and Suggested fields set under Settings → Field Management → Field Validations, and gives each a quality score (how complete its record is, as a percentage) and a tier. The on-screen subtitle reads: "Monitor and improve device data completeness and quality".

The dashboard is read-only and shows the current position only. The figures are loaded each time you open the page.

Where to find it

Discover → Data Quality → Device Data Quality. The page header is Device Data Quality Dashboard.

What you see

Cards

  • TOTAL DEVICES
  • QUALITY SCORE: shown to one decimal place.
  • COMPLETE: the number of devices with every Mandatory field filled in, with its share of the total ("N% of total"). Suggested fields can still be missing.
  • MISSING DATA: the number of devices missing critical data, with its share of the total ("N% of total").

Charts

  • Quality Distribution: a ring chart of the number of devices in each tier. A tier with no devices is left out of the chart.

    • Excellent (90-100%)
    • Good (70-89%)
    • Fair (50-69%)
    • Poor (<50%)

Hover over a segment to see "N devices" and the share of all devices.

  • Field Completion Rates: a bar chart of the percentage of devices that have each scored field filled in, highest first. Mandatory and Suggested fields are in different colours, with no legend. Hover over a bar to see Completion, Completed (devices with the field filled in, out of all devices) and Type (Mandatory or Suggested). Long field names are cut short on the axis. If there are no scored fields, the chart reads "No field data available".

Unlike Application Data Quality, this dashboard has no Most Common Missing Fields chart.

Device Quality Details

A grid with one row per device, sorted by quality score, highest first:

  • Name
  • QualityScore: the score, with a bar.
  • QualityTier: Excellent, Good, Fair or Poor.
  • MissingMandatoryFields: the names of the Mandatory fields that are blank, not a count. It reads "None" when all are filled in. A long list is cut short: hover over it to read it all.
  • MissingSuggestedFields: the names of the Suggested fields that are blank, shown in the same way.
  • Environment
  • PowerState: values seen include Reachable.

The grid toolbar has a back arrow, which returns to the previous page, and an export icon (Export CSV), which downloads the visible columns. The rows have no row actions and the names are not links.

If the cards or charts cannot be loaded, the page shows no error message and the Device Quality Details grid does not appear. Reload the page.

Filters

The grid remembers its Search: text, column filters, sort order and page size in your browser between visits. If the grid shows fewer rows than you expect, clear the Search: box and the filter row.

How to

Find the devices that need data entry

  1. Go to Discover → Data Quality → Device Data Quality.
  2. Read QUALITY SCORE and Quality Distribution for the overall position.
  3. Read Field Completion Rates to see which fields are most often empty.
  4. In Device Quality Details, sort by QualityScore to bring the lowest scores to the top, and read each device's MissingMandatoryFields and MissingSuggestedFields. To export the list, select the export icon (Export CSV).
  5. Fill in the missing fields on the Device grid. This changes the records. The Device grid lists only In scope devices until you select Display all scopes..., so select it if a device is not listed.
  6. Open the dashboard again to see the new scores.

Change which fields are scored

The scored fields are the Mandatory and Suggested fields for devices on Field Validations. A row you add, change or remove there is reflected the next time you open this dashboard.
