Migration Readiness

Purpose

Migration Readiness is the Clarity Transform screen that shows how ready each virtual machine and SQL Server database is for migration to Nutanix. The page header is Nutanix Migration Readiness, and its subtitle reads: "Assess VM and database compatibility for Nutanix migration".

Each VM's Migration Ready value is Ready, Requires Remediation or Failed (the card calls the Failed group BLOCKED). Use this view to drive pre-migration remediation work.

Where the readiness data comes from is not shown on the screen.

Where to find it

What you see

Tabs

  • Device Readiness: virtual machine readiness.
  • SQL Server (NDB): SQL Server database readiness.

Device Readiness

Cards:

  • TOTAL VMS ("Analyzed for migration")
  • READY TO MIGRATE
  • REMEDIATION REQUIRED
  • BLOCKED

Top Migration Blockers shows blocker cards, for example Outdated VMware Tools, Nested Virtualization, Independent Disk, Controller Sharing, Virtual Appliance and Template VM.

Columns. The grid is titled VM Readiness Details and has these columns:

  • Vm Name
  • Operating System
  • Migration Ready
  • Vmware Tools Status
  • Is Appliance
  • Is Placeholder Vm
  • Is Template
  • Has Independent Disk
  • Has Multi Writer Disk
  • Has Controller Sharing
  • Vmware Hw Version Cbt
  • Has Nested Virtualization
  • Last Updated

The grid also has the hidden columns Id, Provider Id, Vcenter, Os Supported, Has Pcie Pass Through, Has Sparse Disk, Has Mixed Adapters, Migration Readiness, Readiness Checks, Created On, Created By and Last Updated By.

The blocker cards use different names from the grid columns. These pairs are matched by name only:

Blocker card Grid column
Outdated VMware Tools Vmware Tools Status
Nested Virtualization Has Nested Virtualization
Independent Disk Has Independent Disk
Controller Sharing Has Controller Sharing
Virtual Appliance Is Appliance
Template VM Is Template

Fields. The create form (Create new entry) has these fields, in this order, all text. The edit form (Edit entry) has the same fields, filled in.

  • Vm Name
  • Operating System
  • Migration Ready
  • Vmware Tools Status
  • Provider Id
  • Vcenter
  • Os Supported
  • Is Appliance
  • Is Placeholder Vm
  • Is Template
  • Has Pcie Pass Through
  • Has Independent Disk
  • Has Multi Writer Disk
  • Has Sparse Disk
  • Has Mixed Adapters
  • Has Controller Sharing
  • Vmware Hw Version Cbt

Id, Migration Readiness, Readiness Checks, Has Nested Virtualization, Last Updated and the audit fields are hidden in the form, so they can't be set there.

SQL Server (NDB)

Cards:

  • TOTAL DATABASES
  • NDB READY
  • REMEDIATION REQUIRED
  • BLOCKED

The section Top SQL Readiness Blockers follows the cards.

Columns. The grid is titled SQL Server NDB Readiness Details and has these columns:

  • Device Name
  • Instance Name
  • Database Name
  • Ndb Ready
  • Ndb Ready Details
  • Sql Version Value
  • Sql Instance Running
  • Is Sysadmin
  • Sql Version Supported
  • Sql Service Account
  • Winrm Enabled
  • Db Online
  • Db Files Not On C Drive
  • Db Not Read Only
  • Is Clustered
  • Is Ha Enabled
  • Integration
  • Last Updated

Fields. The create form has every grid column except Last Updated, plus these checks, all text: Ps Language Mode, Ps Execution Policy, Sqlserver Module Installed, Sqlserver Module Version, Os Language, Os Language Value, Universal Crt Installed, Scsi Only Disks, Disk Count Per Controller, Fci All Nodes Have Sql, Fci System User Db Separate Drives, Fci Domain User Account, Fci Cliusr Not Restricted, Ag Listener Configured, Ag Replicas Reachable and Ag Databases Synchronized. These checks are hidden in the grid.

Actions

Both grids have the standard toolbar: Create New (the add icon), Edit, Remove selected, Clear selection, Reload table data, Enable spreadsheet editing, Export CSV and Import CSV. Create New opens the Create new entry form, and Edit opens the Edit entry form for the selected row. Export is CSV only.

The rows have a View Details row action (the eye icon).

Filters

  • Each column has a filter row, and a Search: box searches the grid.
  • The page-size selector offers 10, 25, 50 or All entries per page.

The grid remembers its Search: text, column filters, sort order and page size between visits. If the grid shows fewer rows than you expect, clear the Search: box and the filter row.

Values

  • Migration Ready: Ready, Requires Remediation, Failed.
  • Check columns: Passed, Failed.

How to

Review VM readiness

  1. Go to Plan → Readiness → Migration Readiness. The Device Readiness tab opens.

  3. Read the Top Migration Blockers cards.

Export the VMs that need remediation

  1. On the Device Readiness tab, in the filter row of the Migration Ready column, filter for Requires Remediation or Failed.
  2. Select Export CSV.

Review SQL Server readiness

  1. Go to Plan → Readiness → Migration Readiness.
