Credentials

Purpose

The Credentials screen holds named user name and password pairs for Clarity Transform to use elsewhere. Most integration endpoints, SMTP and Teams notification profiles, scripts in the Script Repository and Nutanix Move migration plans select a credential from this screen by its Name. RVTools and Nutanix Collector endpoints have no credential: they take an uploaded file. The screen has no header or subtitle.

Clarity Tags are on a separate screen: see Clarity Tags.

Where to find it

What you see

Columns

  • Name
  • User Name
  • Description

The grid does not show passwords.

Fields

The create form (Create new entry) has these fields, in this order:

  • Name: text.
  • User Name: text.
  • Password: a password field.
  • Description: multi-line text.

Id and the audit fields are hidden in the form. The form footer has Cancel and Save. There are no type, technology, token, certificate or key fields.

When you edit a credential, Password shows a masked value rather than the stored password. After Save, a toast reads "Changes saved successfully!", or "Error saving changes:" followed by the reason, in which case the form stays open.

Actions

The screen uses the standard Clarity grid toolbar:

  • Create New
  • Edit
  • Remove selected
  • Clear selection
  • Reload table data
  • Enable spreadsheet editing: the in-grid editing mode.
  • Export CSV
  • Import CSV: opens the Import from CSV dialog.

Export is CSV only. The grid rows have no row actions.

Filters

The grid has a Search: box, a page-size selector and a filter row under each column.

The grid remembers its Search: text, column filters, sort order and page size between visits. If the grid shows fewer rows than you expect, clear the Search: box and the filter row.

How to

Add a credential

  1. Go to Settings → Identity & Access Management → Credentials.
  2. Select the add icon in the grid toolbar (its tooltip begins Create New). The Create new entry form opens.
  3. Enter the Name, User Name, Password and Description.
  4. Select Save.

Edit or remove a credential

  1. Select the credential's row in the grid.
  2. To change it, select the edit icon (its tooltip begins Edit). The Edit entry form opens with the same fields as the create form, Name, User Name, Password and Description, filled in. Change the fields and select Save. If you change Name or User Name, re-enter the Password as well. Otherwise the form does not save and shows "Please re-enter the password if you changed the credential name." or "Please re-enter the password if you changed the user name." under Password. To change only the password or the Description, you do not need to change anything else.
  3. To remove it, select the delete icon (tooltip Remove selected), then Delete in the confirmation (or Cancel).

Check which endpoints use a credential before you rename or remove it

Endpoints, notification profiles, scripts and migration plans select a credential by its Name. Before you rename or remove one, check the Credential column on the endpoints of each integration you use.

Rotate a password

  1. Select the credential's row, then the edit icon. The Edit entry form opens.
  2. Enter the new password in Password. Leave Name and User Name unchanged.
  3. Select Save.
  4. To prove the new password works, select Mark as Running on one endpoint that uses the credential and check its Last Result. See Integrations.
  • Integrations: most integrations' endpoints select a credential. RVTools and Nutanix Collector endpoints do not.
  • Communications: SMTP Configuration and Teams Notifications profiles select a credential.
  • Pre-Migration Setup: a script in the Script Repository can select a credential, needed only if the script works with the guest operating system.
  • Migration Jobs: creating a Nutanix Move migration plan selects credentials.
  • User Roles: the other screen under Identity & Access Management.
  • Clarity Tags: tags have their own screen under Settings → Field Management.
